Scottish Festival

Wonderful bagpipers. The Mr. commented on how they "need to find a differant tune." :)

Today I went to the Blairsville Scottish Festival and Highland Games! My dad and I used to go every year in Washington when I was a kid, but I haven't been in a long time. It was so much fun! We got there at about 10:00, and it was already ridiculously hot. Wandered around a bit, bought some shortbread, stopped at the Clan Cameron tent, then sat down to watch the Games. More specifically, the caber tossing which never ceases to amaze me. They're throwing TREES for crissake, and wearing what people would like to call skirts while doing it.

Scots are badass.

Me and Phillip, cooling off in the shade. Im shocked my face isnt covered in sweat.

Giant cow ass. Phillip was embarassed when I stopped to take this picture. ;)

I can't wait for next year!

Painted Lady

I've ventured into the realm of painted shoes...and it's really addicting. It combines my love of art, fashion, and making thrifted things newly awesome. My first pair is up on Etsy right now, this lovely pinup inspired number, all decorated with lovely cherries. They're painted with acrylics and triple sealed to make them water and dirt resistant! Which is awesome. Because who wants dirty, runny cherries? Exactly. No one.

These ones are a pair of 4" pumps by Fredericks of Hollywood, in really really good condition. I was shocked to find them, actually. Theyre also a size 10 and in my etsy shop, ready for the taking!

What do you think?

Thrift Haul - 06/08/2009

Here are a couple pretty things that I've treated myself to this week!

I love these Ice Cream bowls. They're so adorable! I swear, I keep finding cute treat themed kitchen items, it's like the universe wants me to have a kitchen so themed. I got this set of 4 at Goodwill for $2.50. Can't beat that!

Next, these super awesome red pumps by Fredericks of Hollywood. The picture isn't that great, but they're bright red and in really great condition! They're a smidgen too tight, so you may see them for sale soon, but at $4.00 I'm not complaining.

Last, we have this little item. Not found thrifting (don't I wish), but on the pages of dear old Etsy! It's a new print and quite pricey, but how cute!!! I couldn't resist, and since I've had a very good week of sales I thought I'd treat myself. I think I'll save it for something special, but if you have an idea for something you'd like made of it, I'd be happy to cut into it. :)

On an Etsy related note, I've listed a TON of vintage patterns on my destash site, MamaImStrange . There's swimwear, skirts, children's clothing, tons of really cute stuff. I've got more to list, so check back throughout the week. I'll be listing new fabrics as well.

Finally!!!

So, I admit I was skeptical about ArtFire. The layout isn't as clean as Etsy, I wasn't sure if people even bought stuff on there, and I didn't really think I would sell anything on it. I made an account about an hour ago, and I hadn't even finished listing my items when, would you believe it, I got a sale! So, of course, I went running to Phillip yelling " I sold something, I sold something!", only to run back to the computer to check again. After a LONG time of no sales on Etsy, this definitely raised my spirits. So, tomorrow, my retro owls pouch will be on its way to Nevada!

It's such a great feeling, having someone want to pay for something you have made. I'm sure all you crafters feel the same. There's nothing like it. :)

Bye, Bye Owlies!

2. A BRAND NEW pair of amazing jeans from Banana Republic, with the tag still attached. Originally $89. Mine for $5.

3. A really cool wooden mini locker, which will soon be sanded, painted, and made awesome. $3

4. TRIPP black and red corset, in really good condition! This is also an XL, and is not so easily altered, so has made its way to ebay. Here's the listing if youre interested. Starting out at only $7!

Dino Love

I think that t shirts make the best bags. They're colorful, soft, and strong...all the things you need for a great everyday tote! Here are a couple that I recently put up.

This one is a fave, and Im so tempted to keep it. It was made from a No Boundries shirt, and a canary yellow linen. It's also got a little yellow heart button to keep things extra cute!

And then we've got the super cool Mario Bros. Plumbing tote! I love it. The image is a raised velvet, and looks vintage and awesome. Bright red lining, and a dotted base.

Ive got a huge bin of tshirts to delve into and create into bags, so more will be on the way!

Too much Christmas Crap.

Life has been so crazy lately, it's nice to just sit back and relax. Or in my case, sew! I spent a month in California visiting my aunt and helping her clean out her house and garage so she can rent it out. Holy crap. I have never seen so much stuff in one place. When I was younger I used to wonder what was in all those boxes piled high to the ceiling. Now I know.

Christmas stuff.

In every single box.

It was completely ridiculous. And it took FOREVER to get through it all. Im sure all those lights and plastic Santas are still strewn about the driveway waiting for a garage sale. On a brighter note, I found a TON of old sewing supplies, fabric, and things! I also found some clothing that used to belong to my mother when she was my age and first moved to America with her family. Which is great. I'll try and get some pictures of them soon.

On a compeltely differant note, I saw Star Trek a couple days ago. And it was completely amazing. I wish all movie remakes were that amazing. They should redo all those crappy Star Wars add ons and make them like Star Trek. I hate those Star Wars movies...

Gators and Fairytales

Here's a few more zipper pouches made with some scrap pieces of Japanese fabrics. I really love playing around with the color/fabric/zipper combinations. It's incredibly fun to try to use all those small pieces of fabric, and sooo much cheaper than buying them by the yard.

All available on Etsy, and with more pictures! :)

Cuteness overload!

I love those adorable Japanese cottons and linen fabrics (who doesn't?), but have a hard time forking over 10 or so dollars for half a yard of fabric. So I bought a scrap bag of 30 different prints for 7 bucks, and had some wild fun thinking of what to make with them. The pieces were a pretty good size, and I cant wait to make even more of these. They're a great way to use up scraps. I got mine from TheCraftyTurtle on Etsy. She has a great supply of cute prints, and they're really reasonably priced!

A quick dinner

My first new recipe of the New Year! I love cooking, but never seem to get around to it. I found and altered a recipe for Mozzarella Meat Pies, and they turned out absolutely fantastic!

All you do is brown some meat, add onions, tomato paste, and whatever you'd like to season. Then you take some crescent rolls, and divide them into squares (each package has 4). Press the seams together so they wont fall apart, put some of the meat mixture into the center, then top with another square and seal the edges! Bake at 375 degrees until the pastry is lightly browned.

For an awesome addition, mix together equal parts ranch dressing and salsa for a dipping sauce. Incredibly tasty, and it adds that little something extra. So simple and quick!

He only spoons with Lions and Tigers.

This is Gladiator.

He was rescued from an indoor fleamarket and has been a focal point in this house since Phillip bought him and took him home 5 years ago. And although some people don't understand why I love and accept him as the focal point of our living area, I really do like the thing. How many people have a larger than life Roman soldier by their dining table? Not too many. My house is full of random things, most of them Phillips, and I love sharing them with people!

The hall of movies. Well, part of it anyway. The third shelf down is nothing but horror movies all the way across, so I have to avert my eyes whenever Im searching for a film. I'm that big of a wuss. Strange how I ended up with a horror movie fanatic who collects anything related to the subject.

Strange little world.

My Kingdom for a Dunny

I got these three for Christmas from my fabulous boyfriend. They're dunnys, by KidRobot. Arent they CUTE??? Some of them cost a ridiculous amount, but....man. Adorable. I think I'm hooked, and have to get about 50 more. Love love love~

I did a lot of cleaning/folding/organizing this morning in my craft room. Now everything is *sorta* in its place. Above is another Christmas gift, a Unicornasaurus, also by KidRobot. How Amazing! The box is covered in all sorts of colorful artwork that I just adore.

Above that is a print of Red Riding Hood by one of my favorite artists ever, moonlightwhispers. Her work is amazing, and she's super talented. Check out her etsy shop, so you can fall in love with her too!

An awesome find.

I've been looking for this fabric for a long time, and had about given up on finding it anywhere. I was in a local thrift shop, and saw a bit of color in the corner of my eye, et voila! There is was! Needless to say, I was very excited and immediately ran off to show the boy...who wasn't nearly as impressed as I was. I mean...its Mario!

I think you find the best things at thrift stores when you aren't looking for anything. When you have no expectaions, you can really appreciate the awesome (and sometimes, really weird) things there are. For example, a couple weeks ago we were paying for our things at a differant charity shop when this woman in front of us pulls out a pair of bright red, 6 inch stilletos that she found in a pile of shoes. The one day I didnt look for them.

What are the odds.

Jan 4, 2009

A happy birthday!

Not my birthday, but that of the boy who shares my space! He turned 25 today, and was more than a little disturbed by that fact. Although it doesn't seem old at all in my opinion ( and Im sure most of you will agree), he seems to be feeling it. Maybe things he would have liked to have done by now? These things happen every year, but there's nothing we can do to stop the passing of time. All we can do it enjoy it as it comes (thats what she said), and strive to make each year better than the last.

First Snow!

I woke up this morning at 8:45 (early for me), and about fainted when I looked outside! The porch and forest beyond were absolutely covered in the fluffiest, whitest snow. The weather channel had said we would get some down here, but I didn't expect a lot. Gorgeous!!!
Okay, well the road looks a bit rough there, but the trees!

I always get excited for the holidays once it starts snowing. It's very festive.

Kitty's first snow experience. Surprisingly, she loves it!

A day to myself...

It's not until tomorrow, but I really am looking forward to it. Not that I dont love my boyfriend, but sometimes you just need a little alone time to gather your thoughts and do whatever you want...however silly it may be. Like, say dancing around the house singing tv game show themes. He's off to a friend's place, to watch movies...and movies...and more movies. I have no idea how they can sit for 6 or so hours in front of a television. I think I'd go insane. I do love embroidering in front of the tv though. Go figure.

I plan to do some painting, and some drawing, both things that I've put on the back burner for quite some time now. I've been so caught up in the world of fabric, crafting, and sewing that I've seriously neglected one of my first loves. So! We'll see how that goes. My painting skills are not what they once were (if they were anything...)
A couple new creations for you!

Gotta love those fuzzy dinosaurs...I'm not sure why I call it a dino. It oculd be any manner of fuzzy monsterous creature. Maybe it's the Barney-esque pink color. No matter. It's cute anyway. And a very cool tmnt shoulder bag. I love Donatello. I was always drawn to the introspective ones. ;)

Hey, Blue Ranger! Where's your helmet?

Blue Ranger (sans helmet) vs. Ash Excuse me... triceraranger... *cue eye roll*

Happy (belated) Halloween!
We had a lot of fun last night, parading around. The sad thing about living in such a small area, is that people's costumes generally arent creative or original at all. Except for the off inflatable toucan or giant head, the majority of children just weren't up to snuff.
Not that i can talk. I didnt end up finishing my costume, so I made myself a candy corn skirt to wear instead. At least I was in the spirit!

And in answer to the question...Ohio. The ranger mask is in fucking Ohio. Nevertheless, people still knew who he was, although he did get some snickers. (not the chocolatey kind). One of these years, he's going to be the Green Ranger, and I'll be the pink one.

Note: He is a zyuranger. Not a power ranger. He was quite stern about this differance. (If you watch the japanese Zyuranger, its very good. I recommend it.)
Dorothy and Ash (from Evil Dead, if you dont know) He had this amazing mini chainsaw that he found at a dollar store, which was PERFECT.

After some cookie cake, smarties, and beverages everyone headed home and I did a small Samhain ritual. ( i was tired.) It was a very good night. ^_^ Hope everyones was safe and filled with candy!

Hapy new year!

Technicolor Vomit.

The garden.

I keep getting more and more irritated with technology. We were watching Sleeping Beauty (fantastic birthday gift), when out of the blue, the screen went all crazy 3-D, colors everywhere, like technicolor vomit. (Great image). It's completely ruined, and if we were to fix it, it would just break again in about a year.

Apparently that particular tv is complete crap. And I'm starting to mistrust any television with a plexiglass screen that wobbles when you touch it. Call me crazy, but I prefer the old school, boxy sets with an inch thick glass front. Plus, why spend a thousand plus on a set that's going to last maybe 5 years.

Grr.

On a happier note, P's dad found us this amazing vintage trunk in his basement to hold our new, smaller tv.

Isn't it amazing?! It needs some love, but it's going to be epic. I love the huge buckles and hardware...and just the size of this thing. They dont make these anymore!

Another plus? When we looked inside there was a box of vintage buttons, thread, and other notions, all unopened! (though slightly damaged) I love the thread in particular, especially the wooden spools they come on. Stars! Who'd have thought...
